First one is a very hilarious ad. No need to explain the concept. So funny and creative. The originally-made-as-a-romantic old song seem to be complementing the situation portrayed with utmost compliance. Also not to ignore the fact that the song is remixed.

The song used in the ad is ‘Jawan hai mohabbat’. This song from the 1946 movie Anmol Ghadi was sung by the legendary Noor-E-Jehan and also features her. Easily becomes one of the gems of Hindi cinema’s black and white era. Now enjoy the song…

What makes me wonder is that how such a romantic and happy song helps this ad to be as funny as it is meant to be.

The next one is the Nestea ad featuring animated kangaroos. Surely a hit among kids, this ad is also an example for India’s very own sentimental marketing. Original song is used in the first half of the ad and then its remixed version. Both rock.

This song comes from the 1969 Hindi movie Aradhana featuring Sharmila Tagore and sung by another legend of Hindi cinema, Lata Mangeshkar. Till date no other song of this kind is made which qualifies to be compared with this one.

Unfortunately very few songs these days are worth a listen. I bet that is the reason ad film makers use old Hindi tracks for their ads.

Eurovision 2010’s winner is the German entry ‘Satellite’ by Lena Meyer-Landrut. But I am completely shocked by the results, since I was hoping that the Azerbaijani entry to the contest, ‘Drip Drop’ by Safura will garner the coveted prize this year. Safura’s on-stage performance singing the song ‘Drip Drop’ managed to get only the 5th place.

‘Satellite’ is just an ordinary song when compared with ‘Drip Drop’. Lena has no formal vocal training, yet she managed to deliver a superb performance. Safura, the Caucasian beauty not only gives life to her words by singing so awesomely but also gives a unique beauty that Lena misses to give. Lena’s way of singing is a happy-go-lucky i-don’t-care-what-emotions-are type. She sounds like an over-enthusiastic school girl mimicking a famous pop song. Yet the song is enjoyable.

‘Drip Drop’ is an emotion-heavy song. Safura puts all her energy into her voice to bring out the agony of a girl who recently had a breakup. It is really a touching rendition that goes straight into the heart and stays put there. It sort of leaves a pain in there. I believe such a song that really makes an impact is the best one rather than the ill-judged winner ‘Satellite’.

Since this a televised song contest, people are let to vote and choose their favorite song based on popularity. The countries that have given ‘Safura’ the most points are from Eastern Europe and Caucasus. Countries in the mainland Europe favored Lena’s attempt at singing a jolly song. What could be the reason behind such widespread negligence of a superb song? Is it the European mentality that is reluctant to leave the title of Europe’s most liked music artist to a Caucasian Islamic girl? It is certainly not the lack of musical knowledge that makes them refuse to appreciate good music. Or is it a petty reason like lack of promotion of the song among western, northern and southern European audience that became advantage to songs like ‘Satellite’. The only reason that I could frame is that majority of Europeans are not ready to accept a foreign entity at the expense of their national pride. When such an international music contest is conducted, Europeans must open up a bit to accept foreign talent.

Azerbaijan debuted in the Eurovision song contest in 2008, when it was placed in 8th in the final voting. In 2009, Aysel & Arash’s peppy number ‘Always’ managed to get 3rd place. Then it was impossible to win the contest because of Norway’s Alexander Rybak’s blissful performance of ‘Fairy Tale’ with all that awesome violin skills. There could not be a more convincing performance than that. But this time it seems that a biased judgement is given by Europeans. Only because a German girl is able to deliver a good performance, they decided to dump a much better Safura.

Azerbaijan has got a lot of talented people in the music scene. Safura, Aysel, Arash and the lesser known Irada are superb singers. Anyways, even including a not so European country like Azerbaijan in the contest and helping artists like Safura, Aysel & Arash get their part of worldwide attention through the Eurovision platform is a great thing. So I will restrain from anymore Europe bashing and listen to the music. Drip Drop…. Drip Drop….

Throughout the year I have been listening and singing and often murmuring songs from ‘Varanam Aayiram’. Shruti Hasan lend her voice to Adiyae Kolludhe which is a first-of-its-kind-in-Tamil-cinema punk rock number from the movie. That is a very romantic yet rocking n stylish song and I will give all those credits to Shruti Hasan only. Her part of the song starts half the way, ‘Vaadai Katrinil Orunaal…’ adding style and bringing a kind of feel-goodness and breezy mood (partly the magic of lyrics) to the song. And the crooning that follows was absolutely phenomenal. Bringing her own kind of feminity to the otherwise bass-guitar-high-pitch song, she makes a lasting impression on the listener, at least on die-hard fans like me.

Well this song will be undoubtedly on everyone’s favorites list

Even before the magic of Varanam Aayiram songs fade away, Shruti Hasan astounded all of us with her maiden attempt at composing music. Scoring the background for a movie like ‘Unnaipol Oruvan’ is not a easy thing. It convinces you to have her as your favorite musician. She has set tunes for a couple of songs in the movie. Along with Blaaze, she sets the music systems on fire with the stylish Tamil song ‘Vaanam Ellai…’. The whole song is a mix of Tamil and Western elements. The lyrics are in Tamil with the saranam in English, which is not at all awkward or ambiguous. The instruments played were mainly Western with the Tamil Mridangam in between, showing how talented Shruti is in mixing different kinds of music. With Blaaze’s hip-hop voice rocking all the way,the song is a real treat.

The song ends with a little girl’s voice announcing ‘Oh its my favorite song’. It definitely is for me.

This song got into my head the first time i heard and is not leaving from there(i am not ready to let it go).
I have to tell about this,Andrea’s voice just spells magic.
Romance gets a new meaning here.The song is sweet and sad at the same time.
G.V.Prakash is going to make it big in the industry,no doubt about that,he knows how to strike the right chord of your heart.
The lyrics are great.Simple words with deep meaning.Totally a superhit.Hope the movie is also like that.

This song is one of my all time favorites.The song is from the 1973  hindi superhit ‘Yaadon ki baarat‘.The legendary composer R.D.Burman has scored the music.The masterpiece ‘Chura liya hai tumne jo dil ko’ sung by Mohammed Rafi and Asha Bhonsle is still a very popular song.Zeenat Aman and Vijay Arora star in this romantic number.

I am crazy about the nice jingle that plays in the Close-up ad.It goes on like “Nerungi varuvai,Nerungi varuvai,Nerungi varuvaiye..ooooo”.Thats all,barely a line,it ends there.I first saw the ad in national television,obviously in Hindi.It was “Pass aao..”in hindi.Both meant the same,’come closer’.It is very romantic to hear.

“Pass aao” sounded too good to me.I instantly became a fan of ‘pass aao’.The ad was also shot very nicely,set in a busy narrow market place in some sleepy little Thai(i guess) town.The busy street is crowded with people and looks very lively.Chinese lanterns are seen hung all through the narrow line on both the sides.The lanterns are looking very clear and are the highlights of the ad.

But the story of the ad is quite laughable. The camera zooms into the town,first showing the town on a river,then a lady entering the market,then the girl,and she looks somewhere,there we see the guy.The girl blows a soap bubble through the pipe and that bubble goes floating through the crowd,all the way to the guy.On the way an old man,a backpack guy,a lady behind the window,a monkey on the roof all see the big bubble.Only the monkey tries to catch it,but remains unsuccessful(so that the guy the could get it).And it goes on and splashes on the guy’s face.Ah,he is just mesmerised,bound by the smell’s spell(i guess this too),walks on the direction it is coming from.And there is our pretty lass playing with the soap bubbles.He comes close to her.Both play for a second blowing the bubble through the pipe in her hands.Finally she blows the bubble and it splashes on his face,once again.

Keep the story aside.The music played in the background,that is ‘pass aao’ or ‘nerungi varuvaai’ is the highlight of the ad.Its not at all boring,even if heard a thousand times.You know how many times these ads are shown on tv.Its just 45 seconds long and still remains firm on the mind.I often hum the song.And it is my ringtone now.I like the tamil one than the hindi one,but got the hindi version only.I dont know who did the music for this ad.Thanks for close-up to give such a nice romantic song to hum for.

Not only me,everyone is humming ‘nerungi varuvai’.My nephew,who is only 5 years old often hums the song as he is playing.Its very nice to hear from him,with his sweet voice.And the way he says ‘oooooo….’ is just adorable.Not only him,i heard my cousin who always likes peppy numbers hum ‘nerungi varuvai’.Everyone likes ‘nerungi varuvai’.

And not to forget the girl and guy.The girl is absolutely gorgeous and guy too looks cute.They share a nice chemistry,both with each other and with the bubble.That’s what makes the ad very romantic along with the song.
